"Awareness Raising and Capacity Building on GSP+ Opportunities and Requirements in Uzbekistan

Contributing to enhancement of the common understanding of GSP+ and the 27 conventions on social and environmental standards that are attached to the GSP+ status.

Target audience:
Representatives of NGOs, political parties, journalists and bloggers, representatives of government agencies 

Tasks:
Production of infographics and guides on GSP+ and international conventions (27 documents);
Organization of public discussions for representatives of local government bodies and civil society institutions;
Conducting public monitoring/hearings on expanding exports of finished products to European countries as part of the GSP+ system. 


What has been done:
1.    Infographics on the GSP+ project was designed and published on the Nationwide Movement “Yuksalish” official social networks and the website. The infographics depicted the procedures for implementing GSP+, Uzbekistan's opportunities to use preferences, as well as 27 international conventions reflected in national legislation on human and labor rights, ecology and good governance.
2.    The Brochure "GSP INSIGHTS. EU General Preference Scheme" was adapted to the context of Uzbekistan. Within the framework of economic trends, it covers the role and importance of civil society institutions in fulfilling the opportunities of Uzbekistan, as well as the problems of international conventions. The brochure was published in 100 copies and distributed to partner non-profit organizations.
3.    Workshops and trainings were held in 6 regions for representatives of partner non-profit organizations to explain the essence and content of GSP + and 27 international conventions ratified by the Republic of Uzbekistan and reflected in the national legislation of the country. The workshops involved 5 couches. They were attended by over a hundred non-profit organizations, representatives of political parties and active citizens. 
4.    Public discussions were organized in the Syrdarya, Surkhandarya and Khorezm regions on human dignity, human rights protection, environmental protection, women's rights protection, women's right to free medical care, the importance of exports in the economy.  
5.    In order to introduce finished products within the framework of GSP+ to the European markets, public hearings were held in Syrdarya (August 25), Jizzakh (August 30), Kashkadarya (September 9) and Navoi (September 15) regions with the participation of representatives of civil society institutions and state agencies.
6.    In public hearings, the officials were informed of the importance of complying with agreements within the framework of Uzbekistan's international obligations, in particular, of the need to avoid situations of forced labor in export processes, especially in the manufacture of textile products, with an eye to the fight against cases of child labor.
