Youth and Child Friendly Local Governance Initiative

Project goal
Ensuring a systematic approach to engaging children and youth in decision-making, development and implementation of actions on issues directly affecting the well-being of youth on the ground.

Anticipated outcomes
-    Increasing the involvement of children and youth in local decision-making
-    Improving the well-being of young people by providing methodological and technical tools to local authorities for their further planning, resource allocation, implementation and monitoring of their activities, taking into account the interests of young people and children.

What has been done:
An initial situational assessment was conducted in six selected cities (Surkhandarya - Termez, Andijan - Asaka, Ferghana - Kokand, Khorezm - Yangibozor, Navoi - Zarafshan, Republic of Karakalpakstan - Boston), which consisted of three stages:

1) presentation of the essence of the initiative to representatives of the local authorities of the city, and the territorial divisions of the ministries and departments on the ground (working group); 2) Monitoring by experts of the project group of the city's social infrastructures that promote the favorable development of children and youth and their inclusive development, and studying the positive and negative aspects of these infrastructures;
3) organization of trainings among young people in the age categories of 12 - 17 and 18 - 25 years to study their needs, the conditions of the city for the favorable development of children and youth in the city; 
4) conducting a survey among representatives of the working group to clarify the current state of the city, the availability of prerequisites, mechanisms and tools for the implementation of this project and subsequently change the status of the city in a positive direction.
The purpose of the assessment is to see and assess the extent to which cities have created the conditions for the well-being of children and youth, and what more needs to be done for this.
