On February 23, 2023, a roundtable discussion was held in Tashkent on the topic "The role of parliament and civil society institutions in achieving the goals of sustainable development and raising awareness of the population." It was attended by representatives of Oliy Majlis chambers, non-governmental non-commercial organizations, relevant ministries and agencies, international organizations and mass media.

In September 2015, Uzbekistan, like other countries of the world, expressed its commitment to the Sustainable Development Agenda until 2030 and undertook to contribute ensuring sustainable, inclusive, progressive economic growth, social inclusion, environmental protection, peace and security. Regulatory documents have been adopted in this regard.

In particular, in February of last year, by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, additional measures were determined to accelerate the achievement of the goals and objectives of Sustainable Development until 2030. On December 29, 2022, the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and the Senate Council adopted a joint decision on the implementation of this resolution. The "Road Map" directions were approved by the joint decision that contains more than 50 specific measures in 13.

Bobur Bekmurodov, the chairman of the nationwide movement "Yuksalish" participated in the event and gave a speech. The main emphasis in the report was on monitoring the results of SDG, participation of civil society institutions in the preparation of Voluntary National Reports.

As noted, according to the 2022 SDG Index and Panel Report which is publishing annually by Bertelsmann/SDSN, Uzbekistan ranks 77th (out of 163 countries included in the study). Uzbekistan's score (69.9 points) suggests that, on average, the country is 69.9% of the way to the best possible outcome for the 17 SDGs. According to this indicator, Finland (86.2 points), Denmark (85.6), Sweden (85.2) are leading. Among the CIS countries, the first place is occupied by the Republic of Belarus with 76 points.

The chairman of the “Yuksalish” movement emphasized that the participation of the parliament is extremely important in achieving the SDGs, including the parliamentary commission. Another important factor in achieving the SDGs is public participation and public control. The reforms being implemented in the country and the involvement of the public in the transformation processes are proof of this. According to the results of 2022, the Yuksalish movement organized 149 public monitoring and 57 public hearings in the regions.

In addition, in 2020, the "Yuksalish" movement participated in the discussion of the draft of the first Voluntary National Report on achieving BRM in Uzbekistan. More than 400 representatives of ministries and agencies, parliamentarians, NGO activists in all regions of the republic, UN and other international organizations participated in the discussion of the report. This year, it is planned to organize a discussion of the country reviews of the second Voluntary National Report.

As a result of the event, the leadership of the Yuksalish Nationwide Movement, the National Association of Non-Governmental Non-Commercial Organizations of Uzbekistan, and the Center for Sustainable Development signed a memorandum of cooperation to facilitate the achievement of the tasks identified in the joint resolution of the Kengashes of the chambers of parliament on measures to implement the UN General Assembly Resolution on strengthening the role of parliaments in accelerating the achievement of sustainable development goals.

The event was organized by the Parliamentary Commission for monitoring the implementation of national goals and objectives in the field of sustainable development of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the period up to 2030, the National Center for Human Rights, the Center for Sustainable Development with the support of the representative office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (Germany) in Uzbekistan.
