A series of consultation meetings on the topic “Raising awareness of labor law reforms” has begun
The nationwide movement "Yuksalish" and the branch of the Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED) in Uzbekistan (France) began a series of consultation meetings on the topic "Raising awareness of labor law reforms" with the participation of NGOs, trade unions, public representatives, associations, civil activists.
The first events were held on December 13 in the city of Karshi and on December 15 in the city of Bukhara. The consultation meetings are aimed at raising the awareness of civil society representatives about the new version of the Labor Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
It is noted that the New Labor Code regulates individual labor relations and public relations directly related to them on the basis of balancing and harmonizing the interests of workers, employers and the state. When developing a new version of the Labor Code, the experience of foreign countries and international organizations, including Germany, Sweden, Norway, Great Britain, Latvia, Estonia, Japan, South Korea, and the CIS countries, was carefully studied.
The Code is dedicated to certain institutions of labor law and includes new norms such as employment, individual labor relations, vocational training, retraining, and professional development of employees, features of labor regulation of certain categories of employees, protection of labor rights of employees, consideration of labor disputes.
The Code sets out safeguards in case of mass dismissal of employees. In particular, local government authorities may suspend decisions on mass dismissal of employees for a period of up to six months by simultaneously compensating the employer for the losses caused by this delay.
In Uzbekistan, the issue of observing the guaranteed labor rights of employees and preventing forced labor is being considered at a high level. Fundamental changes have taken place in a relatively short period of time, which undoubtedly has a positive impact on people's lives.
Uzbekistan has ratified all the main Conventions of the International Labor Organization, and one of the latest ones is Convention No. 87 "On Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Association". The role of trade unions in protecting the rights of employees is highly valued in our country.
The participants of the consultation meetings received complete information on the new version of the Code with the help of experts. They also familiarized themselves with the latest developments in labor legislation and gave their suggestions on how to speed up the implementation of labor legislation and its compliance.
The next consultation meetings are planned to be held in Fergana, Sirdarya, Nukus, Tashkent in January 2023.
These consultative meetings are organized within the framework of the 2nd pillar of the "Effective Governance for Economic Development" (EGED) program "Strengthening civil society for transparent and accountable economic policy" implemented with the financial support of the UK government.
